Embracing the Joy of Gardening: A Southern Journey with Mehling Mercantile
Hey y’all! If you’re anything like me, you’ve found yourself dreaming of a home filled with the beauty of nature—especially if you’re based in North Atlanta. When I first moved into my home over 13 years ago, I had this grand vision of a lush garden bursting with blooms. My heart was set on planting all the prettiest flowers and greenery I could find. But, let me tell you, I had no clue where to put them so they’d truly shine!
I would wander through the local nurseries, picking out whatever caught my eye. I envisioned a garden so bountiful that I could bring fresh flowers indoors at any moment. Can you relate? It’s that sweet dream of having nature’s beauty just a step away from your front door.
Then, life happened. My lovely daughter came along, and suddenly, my gardening aspirations took a backseat. With the arrival of little ones, my focus shifted, and I dove headfirst into starting a photography business. Between chasing after my daughter and capturing precious moments through my lens, my garden became a distant memory.
Over the years, my husband did his best to maintain our little patch of paradise. But the reality is, many of those lovely plants I had so carefully chosen outgrew their pots or sadly, withered away. Gardening is hard work, y’all! It requires dedication, patience, and a whole lot of love.
So, here’s a little piece of advice from someone who’s been there: Don’t start something you can’t tend to, or at least find peace in knowing that life has its seasons. Just like our gardens, we go through periods of growth and dormancy. It’s all part of the journey.
If you’re looking to bring a touch of nature into your home and garden, Mehling Mercantile in North Atlanta is the perfect place to start. Happy gardening, y’all!
