Creating Your Eden: A Journey of Home and Heart

Hey y’all! Today, I want to share a little piece of my heart with you, inspired by a profound moment I had a few years ago at a friend’s house during an evening of worship and prayer. Her husband shared a simple yet powerful thought: “Make your home like the Garden of Eden.” At first, I was puzzled. What could this mean for a busy mom like me, trying to balance life, work, and family?

As I pondered his words, I realized they struck a deep chord within me. While my home wasn't a total mess, I had developed a tendency to disassociate from things around me—a protective habit I learned in childhood. I wasn’t aware that I no longer needed that protection. After all, I was safe. But then I thought, what kind of example was I setting for my daughter when I’d start clearing out her old clothes yet leave them piled on the chest? Yes, I was waiting on a cedar chest from my in-laws’ attic, but I could have easily put them in a temporary bin.

I used to think, “I’m no one’s maid!” But now, I see the beauty and joy in caring for my home. It’s all about perspective. As I began to embrace this new mindset, I found gratitude in the little things. I realized that if I can’t steward my home well, how could I expect the Lord to bless me with the bed and breakfast I dream of owning one day?

These days, as I fold laundry, I take time to pray over the clothes. I notice things I never did before—the tiny stains that tell stories of playdates, the shirts that remind me of family gatherings. I’m learning to make our home a place of peace and love, where every decoration tells a story, not just a pretty picture on the wall.

Finding the Beauty in Your Home

At Mehling Mercantile, based in North Atlanta, we believe that decor and art can transform your living space into a sanctuary. Whether it’s a vintage piece that brings back cherished memories or a new artwork that sparks joy, every item has a purpose. Just like the Garden of Eden, your home should be filled with beauty, peace, and love.

Scripture encourages us to take care of our surroundings. In Genesis 2:15, we read, "The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it." This reminds us that tending to our homes is not just a chore; it’s a calling.

Your Home, Your Story

As I continue this journey, I want to encourage you to look at your home differently. What stories do your walls tell? How can you fill your space with love and intention? Start small. Perhaps it’s time to clear out those clothes or rearrange a room. Every little change can create a ripple effect of peace and gratitude.

So, stay tuned for more insights and inspiration as I share my journey of making our home a true reflection of our hearts. Let’s embrace the idea of creating our own Eden, one loving touch at a time.

Blessings,
Jennifer
